Scotland trip – Part 2

Edinburgh

My feet are tired! After being here a mere 54 hours I have logged 26 miles and I still have one evening event to attend. No complaining but my feet feel it!

Before seeing the sites planned for today I took the bus to the train station so I know where I’m going tomorrow – and what to expect. It’s a 10-minute ride with stairs (down) into the station. Other than wishing I brought my backpack instead of my suitcase, I’ll manage fine. I know where the platform is and where the coffee spots are so I’m good!

Now I’m headed for Dean Village as it looks so quaint and peaceful in photos. And It is!

First sighting of Dean Village

There are so many angles to take photos – I haven’t decided which one I like the best.

One more

Anyway I wanted to have a coffee and breakfast at the only local shop in the village. So climbing one more hill I found the tiny but cute shop – Dean Village Coffee. I enjoyed a cappuccino and a bacon and egg sandwich on a brioche bun. I sat outside at one of two tables and watched the owners put up some pretty greenery. I did not get a photo so it means I will have to return…

Next up I walked to the hotel I will stay in upon my return to Edinburgh in 10 days. It’s more centrally located than my current place so that should help keep the miles down a bit!

Many statues also serve as roundabouts

I might have done a tiny bit of shopping while wandering…

And then time to sit and relax with some iced tea. I admit I found a Starbucks so I could get an iced green tea and borrow their restroom. This Starbucks did not have the brightest staff. My tea had lemonade put into it which I asked them not to do (they asked me twice). And then one of the staff yelled at a mom with a little girl needing the restroom because she didn’t buy anything. He told her to go across the street. If I hadn’t already ordered I would have left.

Tonight I’m meeting one of Brian’s friends for a drink and then to his girlfriend’s Fringe Festival show. They are the Bad Magicians and the show begins at midnight! Yikes. So I requested Jeff’s phone number so he could meet me and after the show escort me to the bus or something. This will be interesting.

And interesting it was… I took the bus to meet Jeff at the Whiski Bar on High Street. I was a wee bit early so I stood outside enjoying the music while I waited. People watching is always fun!

We ended up at a bar closer to the venue and it wasn’t crowded. It was fun meeting one of Brian and Francesca’s friends and hanging out doing something younger people do, which is go to a midnight show!

This show was a little wicked, very funny and the hour flew by. It was improv meets 3 funny women who have fun with the audience as well as an unusual (bad) makeup style. I hope they didn’t pay for that!

Bad Magicians at Edinburgh Fringe Festival

When the show was over Jeff promised to either see me to the bus stop or walk me back. Night buses in Edinburgh run differently than the day buses and we couldn’t find my stop… so we walked. It wasn’t raining, fairly quiet on the streets and only 30 minutes by foot. We said goodbye and hoped we can say hi again in NY on my next visit.

Just when I was catching up on my sleep I have a midnight show to attend. There’s always tonight!

Morning train to Inverness…
