We (Tracie and I) flew nonstop from Seattle, Washington to Reykjavík, Iceland, landing at 6:05 am. I am definitely in need of a walk, espresso and a bed!
Reykjavík is about a 45-minute bus ride from the airport and naturally our ride included an adventure of sorts… we arrived at a transfer spot and a “nice” or perhaps inpatient man offered to get our luggage from under the bus for us. He pulled the first bag out easily, but the second bag he grabbed (his), he yanked so hard that it threw him backwards, he stumbled, twisted and fell off the curb onto his face! He split his forehead open and was bleeding from just over his eye, and wet from the pavement. I ran to get the bus driver and he hustled the guy off to check him out. Oh boy… He will be fine but he gave us a scare!
We finally arrived at our hotel, and were able to check in early (for a small fee). It was so worth it! We slept for almost 4 hours and it felt amazing! Finally time to check out the city and figure out this money thing! They deal in very large numbers and it’s freaking me out a little.

After our nap we headed out to find a coffee shop for me.

Looking around the town near our hotel were some interesting things.
An adorable pig dressed in Icelandic wool, and a mail box to the Icelandic Santa.

Dinner was fish and chips for both of us and it was delicious. The gal at the Info Center recommended the Reykjavík Fish House. Good recommend!
Notice the lights in front of the bar? Fish lights perhaps?

The fish was white and thick and breading super crispy. They have no ketchup but we found dipping fries into tartar sauce worked fine.
One more store provided a photo op today. Another wool store with real wool throws… we think.

We were able to squeeze in a movie at the Volcano House about the eruptions in 1973 and 2010, as well as a bit of Iceland’s history. We wanted to learn a little more about the country we are visiting.
Tomorrow we have the day free to wander in town, and then tomorrow night at 9 we board the tour bus in search of the Northern Lights. We have high hopes we will see them.
