Today we leave Burgos via Alsa bus. As I discovered yesterday, the Burgos bus station is very close to the old city center, easy to find, clean and friendly. Our trip will take us to Torrelavega where we will find a taxi to take us into Santillana Del Mar.
The bus station had a screen similar to train stations and airports listing the various buses coming in and what bay they would park at. That was helpful and appreciated. Last time I took a bus in France it was not easy to determine where our bus would stop… we found it but did a lot of extra pacing and fretting😬
The route: We went the most unusual route that could be possible. Easily a road a motorcycle would seek out, not a Giant bus that took up two lanes. However we did pick up and/or drop off a few people along those remote areas so the bus driver wasn’t just taking us the more scenic route. Good to know!

We arrive at our hotel and find this view from our window. Santillana Del Mar is a very cute town. We chose this location so we can see the caves of Altamira . More on that tomorrow.

This morning at breakfast we met two ladies that were mother and daughter. From Florida. They are walking the Norte Camino so we chatted a bit about their experiences, how long their days have been etc
They have been walking for 11 days so far and will end in Leon. A few of their days have been long (23 miles)! sounds brutal but they were in great spirits.

This is an absolutely beautiful town with some excellent food, fun shopping and easy walking since it’s so small. We had a good meal last night, but today’s meal I researched and came up with Enoteca El Cantor. By far one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

That was some meal. For 21 euro each we had wine and the above meals with the dessert. This meal will become our comparison for the remainder of the trip!
So our time in Santillana has come to an end. I can’t wait to walk the Norte Camino and pass through here again!
