Burgos Day 2

We welcome the sun for another day. Initial forecast was rain today but I’m sure we’ll see it tomorrow.

First while Rick was inside the Museum of Human Evolution, I wandered the streets of Burgos looking for things I had not seen before. There are so many statues! These were new to me.

The local bull
Musical statues, pied piper or pilgrims to follow?
Los Gigantillos, dating back to the 13th century festival of Corpus Christi. These statues are based on the papier mache version used during the festival
A plaque for Sister cities of Burgos and Buenos Aires
Rick had to join the female pilgrim gazing at the river below… he’s so funny!
Several generations of beer drinkers here me thinks…
Rick titled this “soldiers vs every day man“ or protesters

I enjoyed the morning to myself, stopped for a cafe con leche and a pizza that was closer to a pastry with pepperoni. Delicious!

I thought I should see where the bus station was as we will walk there tomorrow. I was close to the station when Rick texted to say he was finished at the museum and how to meet up. It took me 2 minutes to get to the front of the museum. Great timing!

Now for the Museum of Human Evolution. Rick said it was awesome! And it was free to seniors.

He enjoyed about 3 hours walking through the many exhibits. He got to “meet” prehistoric men and women over approximately .2 to 4.4 million years. He took photos of mankind as they developed from one form to where we are today. He will be reviewing his notes and photos for a long time to come and was very pleased to have been able to visit the museum. When he’s happy, I’m happy!

So there you have some highlights of the museum and mankind’s journey.

Burgos bus station was pretty cool. Indoor bus parking with a staffed ticket counter and cafeteria

After finding the bus station we stopped for a beer, even though we would have preferred an early dinner. The meal would be more like a late lunch (until maybe 3 or 4) or late dinner after 8 pm

Beers on the river front
Beautiful walkway with sculptured foliage
Dinner was the carne pizza, burrata salad and breadsticks, beer and Perrier (23 euro)
Night skies over the massive cathedral. Amazing!

Burgos is truly a gem to visit. The old center is small enough that it’s easy to walk around and yet large enough to find whatever you might need. We had a great little hotel, and I do mean little, but it worked, the price was right and it was a short walk to anything we needed.

Next stop Santillana Del Mar!
