Roncesvalles to Zubiri (June 26, 2024)

Distance: 14.08 miles Elevation gain: 1,224 feet

We are a bit sore from yesterday but ready to go. We are now excited to be finished. Only a few days ago we were sad to be so close to the finish line but yesterday kicked our butts! And we have shopping to consider…

Leaving Roncesvalles
Pretty trails for the first couple miles
That’s how far many of the pilgrims will be walking to their final destination. We did that that in 2014 from Pamplona so no need to do it again!
First bridge of the day
More woods and shade
Plenty of wide open trail
The Camino markers
We turned a corner into the woods and came across horses!
We had a long distance of this trail. It was much appreciated
A well deserved beverage stop. This was our second stop of the day.
Love the local bread delivery system!
Interesting bridge crossing
We know the dreaded downhill is coming up, but what does it look like?
Gorgeous views
More woods and the trail is getting rockier

Back and forth we go into the woods
And there is the dreaded trail. It went on for a good 2 miles with varying degrees of this stone.
Don’t look up. It could hurt!
At last we arrive in Zubiri
And our hotel

It was a good trail day but so warm. Tomorrow we plan to skip breakfast near the hotel and get going so we can avoid some of the heat.

Overall we enjoyed many miles of shade, beautiful trail and some amazing sights. The end had us worried but we actually thought it was easier than the downhill the day before. Perception!

Here’s to a good nights sleep and one more day of hiking!!
