Larceveau-Arros-Cibits to Saint-Jean-pied-de-port (SJPPP)

Mileage: 12 miles Elevation gain: 1166 feet (plus an additional 3 miles after arrival)!

We are so close! The hills are tall and so green.

Today is the day I’ve been dreaming about for 10+ years. When we walked the Camino Francis in 2014 we had to choose a small section to omit. While the Pyranees are a long, tall section they are short in distance, and it made the most sense to skip.

So here we are ten years later getting ready to enter SJPPP and climb the Pyranees.

Hello pilgrims
Maneuvering the gates
The cutest pony!
A beautiful chateau
A lot of the road today was flat
Our coffee and lunch stop – very popular!
A tunnel to cross under the busy road
Making sure you know which way to go!
We are here in SJPPP
Maria joined us for a photo
A very cute French mom/German dad family out for a one day hike. The son also had his two daughters and wife earlier in the hike.

After we walked through the portico, we found the pilgrim office and checked in. We met with Margaret from Boston who was volunteering for a week. We said goodbye to Marie who is going on tomorrow while we enjoy a rest day.

What a gorgeous town this is! We are loving just being here.

We made plans a with Kim and Collin from Perth Australia to meet for a coffee or something after our arrival. Their rest day was Sunday and they had an apartment but weren’t sure they would be up for entertaining. Turns out that’s what we did but it was nearly a half mile walk to their place… uphill of course! We had a nice 2-hour visit with them. Two of their kids live in Vancouver BC so we could potentially see them again. and we have a friend in common whom we met in Spain 10 years ago. It’s a small world!

On our way back from our visit, we walked past a pizza vending machine that we’ve heard about. It cooks it while you wait. Where is our pizza machine?

That’s a wrap for SJPPP. More tomorrow on our rest day.

Bon Nuit!
