Harambeltz to Larceveau-Arros-Cibits

Mileage: 5 miles Elevation gain: 715 feet

Well… I miscalculated distance and we found out yesterday that we only have 5 miles to hike today! Whoops! Tracie doesn’t mind though and actually it gives us a nice rest day before entering Saint-Jean-pied-de-port.

Tracie fed and held the baby bunny rescued by Marie a couple weeks ago
An amazing piece of architecture
Bart, a guest of Marie’s there to help, entertained us with stories and his guitar

Bart was a character. He writes songs as he walks and would love to write a play about walking the Camino. When he met Tracie he knew he found one of his characters. If he gets it done we may have a new comedy star!

The beginning of the day was a nice flat road. It didn’t stay like that but it was appreciated.

Bike or hike?
The changing path
Up again?
Clouds hiding the Pyranees but we know they’re close
Interesting Basque symbol
Tracie rockin’ and rollin’
It gets real!
Walking through Ostabot
Bacon?
I love these wooded “tunnels”
Almost done for the day
Cafe au lait with extra whipped cream
Care for a burger?

The burger vending machine was a first! We heard about a pizza vending machine but no one mentioned burgers! Apparently they come plain and cold so need to be heated. Our Gite guy said the meat is very good but expensive (10 euros). In a pinch…

Our Gite, Hego Alde

This Gite is owned by a fairly young guy (maybe late 30’s or early 40’s) who had a previous career running a golf club. He was looking for something different, likes to cook, so came up with being a Gite owner. This is his second year and he still enjoys meeting the people and cooking for everyone.

This is the toaster Hego used for our breakfast.

Overall a good day, made short by a miscalculation. We’ll take it, get a good nights rest and be off in the morning for SJPPP. We can’t wait!
