East Coast Trip Part 1

Today as I begin this post, it is March 13. Rick TJ and I are in the air headed to Atlanta GA. We have kids and grandkids to visit!

It took over an hour to get our luggage and car rental before we left the Atlanta airport. Being from Portland, I often forget how busy and large other airports are!

We stopped for the night in Forsyth GA, but first dinner was a requirement. We decided on Fox City Brewing Company. Rick likened the interior as possibly having existed during the civil war. It was very rustic but service was good and other than cold fries, the catfish the boys had was a good choice. My smash burger was just ok…

We spent the night at Holiday Inn Xpres. The room was small but comfy and a decent value.

The next morning we drove the additional mileage to Gainesville and finally made it to Patrick and Laura’s and the kids. They were so excited to see us and we them. We will be here for almost a week and we’re letting them do the planning – so who knows what fun things are to come!

First up upon arrival was a walk in Paynes Prairie where alligators sit on the banks of the water as well varieties of large birds, lizards, and supposed wild horses and buffalo. Of course we saw none of the larger animals. The walk was very peaceful despite the alligators smiling at you!

Later we watched Everett at softball practice. It was sunny but as the sun dropped so did the temp. I finally went to the car to get warm. Funny how expectations can affect your state of mind. I expected warm, and yes it was warmer-er but more clothing was needed!

That was day 1! I’m already tired… Florida really is a pretty place, beautiful trees and sunny weather. Perfect for walking this time of year. But the outside temps and humidity ramp up quickly and it’s months before they’re tolerable again. That’s my opinion anyway😊.
