Leaving Siena in the morning was interesting. Kids of all ages were heading to school, adults heading to work, and cars, trucks and buses navigating the narrow streets. Whew!

There were very few hotel choices for us tonight so we will be slightly off the Via Francigena. After checking in with the hotel, they advised we walk thru Monteroni d’Arbia. We can do that.
Along the way we met Hans and Maya from The Netherlands who walked from their house on the west coast in the area where the tulips grow! I have no idea how many added miles that would be, but let’s just say “a lot”. They left their home on July 1 and will be home November 1. They plan to arrive in Rome October 19 and take the rest of the month to relax and focus on the return home. Amazing!
We also met three ladies from Australia who we should see tonight. We have seen them the last 2 nights and I snapped a pic of them in Siena. They tend to leave their hotel late and they manage to arrive by 5 or 6. We did notice however how cute they are dressed. And then we found their secret… they each have a roller bag that they are shipping to their next hotel. Of course it makes sense now! Everyone does their own thing…

Lots of road today but also some nice off road with gravel sprinkled throughout. The temperature was perfect most of the day which always makes it a better day. We were able to stop twice which was also a bonus. First stop in Isola d’Arbia and the second as we were coming into Monteroni d’Arbia.

A quick grocery stop and we were climbing the hill into Lucignano d’Arbia and our hotel, the Borgo Antico.

Our room was large in comparison to some others but what made this room spectacular was the view out the window. Wow! And when the sun started to go down it was even better.

We enjoyed the roof terrace while waiting for dinner service to begin. What a nice environment for relaxing, a glass of wine and the sunset. Aaaahhhh🍷
