Scott’s Valley, the Redwoods and Santa Cruz

Thursday October 7, 2021

Before heading to Santa Cruz, we heard there was a redwood area nearby, so our destination changed. We found easy parking in the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. The .8 mile loop seemed feasible, even for my injured friend…. The trees were amazing!

This tree below known as the Fremont, once held over 80 people inside! It was dark and I let Tracie go in as far as she wanted. I only stuck my head in.

We really enjoyed the trees and the quiet. Redwoods are the most amazing trees. Even when burned, as some of these have been, they can thrive.

Off to Santa Cruz and our cute hotel. We have a balcony that looks across at the roller coaster on the Boardwalk. It wasn’t open today so it was quiet. We’ll see how that goes tomorrow!

A stroll on the pier had us looking over the side at the sea lions. Honking and honking – they are noisy but so cute!

Our evening came to an end with dinner. We both wanted fish and chips but couldn’t decide where to go so we’ll save that tomorrow.

We ended up at an Irish pub and I cracked up at the kids menu. What do you think? My granddaughter Lucy said they nailed it!’

My burger was delicious. I didn’t need the fries and debated on a salad but went for the standard fare. Tomorrow right?
