What a beautiful sight first thing in the morning. Our camp last night was roomy and we know that today brings our longest hike.
We planned to get an early start but didn’t… so breaking camp down and fixing breakfast took us until 8:30. We are fairly certain we have 10+ miles to hike today so off we go. The day will be beautiful but sounds like we have some hills to climb. Joyful times to come!
The trail from Summit Lake back to the crest trail was rocky and gorgeous…

We noticed the landscape included some burned out area, trees. Not sure what year there were fires but the land has not yet recovered.

It is definitely less green on this section of the trail.

The morning flew by but we all needed a long break to include food. My breakfast wasn’t too substantial and I was feeling the effects of too few calories. We found a good spot to rest and rejuvenate… Rick was the peanut butter expert!

After our lunch stop, we all felt pretty good. Despite the hills coming up, we didn’t mind and kept up a good pace.

As the afternoon continued the miles also continued. 9, 10, 11 miles and we still weren’t finished.

It seemed as though the more we hustled along the trail, the longer the trail was. The next time I’m on a multi-day hike, I’m going to relax, enjoy the journey and not worry about what time we will finish. We did have people waiting for us which was the primary reason we hoped to finish early. Lesson remembered… enjoy the journey.
