PCT and Olallie Lake

In about 5 weeks my bestie Tracie and I will be taking a walk along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). To feel a bit more prepared, Rick and I drove to Olallie Lake, which is on the PCT. I thought if I could walk a bit along the trail and see what I could see I would be more relaxed. I’m so glad we did this!

Olallie Lake

My plan is to have Rick drop us off about 50 miles south of Olallie Lake. 10 miles a day sounds good to me. Details still to be worked out but I’m so excited.

While hiking today we ran into a young woman who began her journey at the CA-Mexico border on the PCT. She plans to continue until she reaches Canada. Impressive! She carries 10 pounds of basics (clothing, tent, sleeping bag), plus water and food, totaling 20 pounds. Exceptions would be where she had to pack for a full week of food due to lack of facilities. The bag was then 35 pounds. Her willingness to share her experience definitely will help me plan our trip.

Olallie Lake in the distance

This particular stretch of the trail had some amazing views of Mt Jefferson, and multiple small lakes. Breathtaking!

Delicious huckleberries, pancakes tomorrow!

On our drive home we were talking about the dragonfly’s we saw today, and noticed a large beautiful one flying next to us. He/she stayed with us for close to .25 mile! We both sware he looked in the window at us as he flew. I read they often are attracted to shiny objects. I’m not sure our dust-covered black Subaru was all that shiny, but our dragonfly apparently thought so! That was amazing!

Happy Hikers…
