Wright’s Lake, Eldorado National Forest CA

Looking for a way to beat the heat? Try an overnight (or two) stay at Wright’s Lake campground!

I had planned a multi-day trip from Portland to Benicia CA to visit Stef and family and while making plans she suggested a night at Wrights Lake. It was an excellent idea.

The camp fees were cut in half with a national park pass. Each site holds 6 people and up to 3 vehicles. Picnic table, bbq and a nice fire pit included. There were several vaulted toilets available so we were set.

The drive from Hwy 50 north towards Lake Tahoe with an additional 8 miles off the main highway. The road was decent and my small hybrid made it just fine.

The lake is gorgeous. No motored boats allowed so canoes were prevalent. Rocks of varying shapes and sizes jutted from the water. The lake itself was cool with warm spots here and there. It was a kids paradise.

My grandkids hopped and walked and swam from rock to rock claiming them as their islands.

The High Sierras were the background to a lake surrounded by Douglas firs, ponderosa pine trees, boulders and fallen logs. A trail loops the lake for about 2 miles and meanders through wilderness and cabins. Canoes are parked along the shore in various spots ready for the owners to spend time floating on the calm water.

The lake was a nice break from the city. It was peaceful, beautiful and relaxing.
