Tracie, Viki and I spent the morning looking for petroglyphs. Thousands of years ago the Ancestral Puebloans left their mark in stone. The tribes between 8000 BC and 300 BC were hunter and gatherers looking for game and plants. Rumor has it they left some signs for us to find.

The area we hiked in was filled with wildflowers just beginning to color the desert floor.

The views while we hiked were magnificent. Once we made it to the top of the hill the area was filled with huge rock formations.

Climbing down and around through the boulders we started to see some of the petroglyphs. It was so cool!

Once we found everything we could spy, we continued up the hill for a better view of the landscape. The signposts suggested we would find more petroglyphs so we wanted to take a look. We found more…

The entire hike was less than 4 miles, but it was so interesting and beautiful. We enjoyed each other and followed the hike with lunch in the nearby community of Kayenta Art Village in Ivins. A great end to a lovely morning!
