Thursday was our Vatican day. We heard that St Peter’s Basilica opened at 7 am, so we planned to be there as close to 7 am as possible. The que line was short and we were in before too long. I’ve visited twice before and that first step inside the doors is breathtaking!

Suzanne was in awe of the entire place. And she got to sit in on an English mass which made her day.
It was a good morning, a good visit and we both enjoyed the time spent.
On the way out we both snapped a photo of a swiss guard. There were two different uniforms that we saw. This one is the most colorful!

We stopped for breakfast after our visit and then back to our apartment. Suzanne needed more rest and I had a trip to Rome Termini to buy train tickets for Venice on Saturday. It was nice to just take off and go quickly on my own…
Our afternoon was spent at the Vatican Museum on a guided tour. Of course the Sistine Chapel was the highlight but the rest of the museum is beautiful and full of statues and amazing paintings.

No photos allowed in the Sistine Chapel. I can’t tell you how many times that was repeated. Silenzia! And Shhhhhhhhh! It kept things interesting while we studied the ceiling.
With the tour complete, we were both hungry so stopped for a bite before heading back to our room. It was a low key evening which we needed. We even were ready for bed early which also was needed.
Tomorrow we have a full day planned visiting everything else we must see. Until then!
