Vetralla to Sutri

Saturday October 13

First I have to comment on our dinner last night! Pizza and it was delicious. We found Il Babba on Yelp and they were almost ready for service. 7:30 pm the usual start for dinner here. The restaurant we wanted to go to was reserved in full. Who knew you had to reserve in such a small town.

Pizza Margherita with extra mozzarella

Pizza with salami

The restaurant

Water bath, probably from a hot springs, sitting in a neighborhood on the route

A nice wide trail

Love the morning colors

A pretty yellow butterfly that posed for me

A most odd looking mushroom…

Miles and miles of hazelnut groves

These are funery monuments from the Roman period (1st century BC)

The newest Via marker

Pretty yellow flowers

Fallen apples

Looks like a Rick Aeder project…

The last section of the trail was through the forest. It was unlike anything we’ve experienced so far. It was beautiful, green, wild and unique. It was cared for in a wild way.

We had three makeshift bridges to cross while in this beautiful forest!

Bridge #1
Bridge #2

Bridge #3

This was a tight squeeze with backpacks!

Overgrown pathway

Beautiful waterfall on the way out of the forest
Just before exiting the forest, two horses were nibbling on grass along the trail. One could care less, however the other horse followed me briefly.

All in all a long day (15 miles) but it was such a varied route and scenery – it was not boring!

Another long day awaits tomorrow. More about Sutri then.

Ciao!
