Monday October 8
The Sun is coming up and we are above the clouds this morning! As we begin our day and head down down down it seems as though we are looking at the sea below us but it is cloud cover. It’s so beautiful!

Gorgeous sunrise over Radicafoni

As we go further down the mountain I can see how amazing the landscape is. Not only rolling hills but jagged hills as though Mother Earth was angry and just spit out a few breaths and said “that’s all you get!” Picture perfect!

The day was long, we had 15 miles to walk. Suzanne was ready for the day despite the distance. I have confidence in her! The trail changed throughout the day… Fall colors are beginning to show.

Today was our last day in the Tuscan region as we pass into the Roman region of Lazio. Kind of sad… but we are looking forward to finishing our Via and moving to a more relaxed agenda.

We had two great stops today and a couple more small ones. The best was probably the last stop just before Acquapendente. Perhaps because it was unexpected and we had wine. Suzanne’s knees were bothering her and she had no ibuprofen left. And wine was served in baby food jars.

We thought this was a stop because of the way chairs were placed, but it was beautiful anyway!

I loved the owl tablecloths throughout the Bar. Reminded me of Lucy!!

Creative work with hay! It drew us in!

Wine to help us up that last big hill!
We made it into Acquapedente after being misdirected to a horrible section of trail. It made no sense and Suzanne was not having any of it. She was the smart one… whoever placed the Via Francigena sign there should be severely punished!

Look before you leap!

A very nasty pathway
So after 16 miles, we arrived at our hotel for the night. We have a room over a pizzeria! Once we were in our room, I suggested Suzanne take it easy and I would run errands for her. That’s what we did and I’m hoping her body will heal tonight while she sleeps.
Tomorrow’s walk doesn’t seem as difficult. You never know until you’re in the middle of it!
Ciao for now
