The Elevated Greenway aka The Promenade Plantee

I previously mentioned this lovely elevated greenway, but when I put two and two together and got four I was so excited! The park Rick and I found in our neighborhood up a long flight of stairs was actually part of the Promenade Plantee. After we walked on the pathway, I did some research and discovered it is nearly 3 miles in length. It was built on what was an abandoned railway line decades ago. In the 1990’s the trail became a reality.

We saw joggers and people heading to work as well as strollers and those taking their time. The great thing is there are no stop lights or streets to cross.

My last morning in Paris I decided I would find the closest entrance to the greenway from our apartment. It was less than 5 minutes and I could have walked all the way to the Bastille monument above the street. I did notice a small group of transients chatting. I walked past them like I knew where I was going and they hardly noticed.

Shortly after walking the greenway (and here it was more of a trail) I came into a cool, well-lit tunnel. I did look up to see if there were any bats. There was netting covering the entire roof of the tunnel which gave me some comfort. If there were any, they were sleeping.

Soon I found myself back at the now deserted park we found a few days ago. I decided to keep walking until I found the greenway connection. Not long and there it was. I felt like I discovered gold!

The walkway between my apartment and the park took me through oversized sidewalk walkways, tree-lined pathways, one tunnel, a bridge over the park and then the arched entrances to the more lush greenway. What a wonderful walk while in Paris!
