Rick and I walked from our apartment to the Marche (market) after I read an article written by David Lebowitz about how wonderful it was. I actually enjoyed this market more than the St Ouen Flea Market. Possibly due to it’s manageable size and closer location, and… we made a purchase. It was a good place to visit and it’s open every day except Monday. That is a bonus!

This market was smaller but there were tables and tables of goods to browse. Rick stopped at the table filled with small figurines of french military soldiers in varying poses. We had just visited the Armee Museum showcasing French military over the years and highlighted Napoleon’s years. Inside the museum was one room dedicated to toy army figures which is how battles were configured and strategized before computers.

When we saw the table of tiny figures Rick came to a halt. He ended up buying 2 guys, one of them was carrying the french flag. I’m sure they will find a home in Rick’s office, along with all of his other random items already on display!
The rest of the market was filled with books, glassware, videos, clothing, shoes, dinnerware, cases, silver and cutlery, wooden African statues and of course produce, fish, meat, pastries and I’m sure I forgot a few more.
This table below is for Bobbie…

It was an enjoyable walk to and from. On the return trip we found a park situated on the upside of a set of stairs. There was an entire neighborhood above the street we were on. Apartment buildings and streets, as well as a beautiful little park with sunbathers filling the grassy surfaces. If we had not been walking, this park and it’s surroundings would have remained unknown.l to us. The power of travel by foot!
