Snow…

I missed the Portland snow in December when I was in California; however, this snow I did not miss! Living in Portland, Oregon, you know not to get too excited when the forecast calls for snow because it doesn’t always happen. I had a good feeling about this last forecast, and it was more than expected.  3 hours earlier than predicted the snow began falling. I went outside every hour and snapped “comparison” photos for fun. It was amazing to see the change in each photograph. By 10 pm we had 5 inches and another 5 by early next morning. Can I just say that when there is a good snow storm, meaning it just keep falling and doesn’t stop, everything is so white, clean and quiet. It is magical.

We are now on day 3 of this magical snow, and I admit I’m ready for rain.  Its easy to feel “housebound”. My car has remained hidden in the garage, but I have been out exploring. On Wednesday, which is the morning we all woke up to 10″ or more of the white stuff, I walked down my street to the Max train so I could pick TJ (one of my kids) up. I wasn’t sure if he was up for an adventure, but I was going to have one with or without him. He was willing, so we took a bus to the train and landed in NW Portland. Our plan was to find a good lunch spot and then hold onto a hot coffee beverage on the way back home. When you take public transport on a snowy day, its hard to say how long it will take.  Train tracks freeze, buses slide, etc. etc.

snow-january-17Our original lunch destination, Tilt, was not open. We had already noticed even fast food restaurants were closed so it was not a complete surprise to see a normally open restaurant closed. Coffee came next as we both needed to sit, warm up a bit and figure out where we might go.  We agreed on a place that would be new to both of us, Fat Head’s. Burgers were on the menu which sounded really great to me, so off we went a few more blocks.  Good decision.

We wore the right mix of clothing and boots, hats, gloves and scarves. It was great to be outside enjoying the snow, the people and so many dogs and kids!  There is so much beauty in this world. Sometimes we forget to enjoy a walk in the snow and choose to stay indoors. You have to experience everything in order to be happy and truly life your life.
